Spring '09 Features Released
January 16th, 2009
Salesforce.com released the features for the upcomng Spring ‘09 release. Some of my favorites are:
- Apex Code Auto-Complete in Force.com IDE – Finally Eclipse will have the same features that Visual Studio had 8 years ago!
- Broader Compatibility With External Web Services
- Cross-Object Workflow – Update Parent Fields from Child Records without Code
- API Data Replication Enhancements – Not sure exactly what this is but everyone loves replicating data!
- Enhanced Sites support for robot.txt, packaging and pages
- Visualforce Theme for Ideas – Out-of-the-Box Visual Template for Ideas Public Sites (I’ve been told by the Ideas product manager that they are releasing all of the Apex and Visualforce code to developers to roll our own implementations.)
- Salesforce-to-Salesforce API – Share information with partners automatically based on predetermined criteria
Of course there is other great stuff coming in Spring ‘09 but these features make my legs tingle.

I agree this is great, BUT I think you mean that finally Salesforce got around to including code complete in the Force IDE plugin – this has nothing to do with Eclipse itself. The blame should fall on SF.
You are 100% correct Brian! It’s about time SFDC finally added these features. I’ve been using Eclipse for Java, Flex, Ruby, ColdFusion and Javascript development for quite awhile and sometimes is is like chewing glass to develop Apex with auto-complete. Hopefully you’ll be able to to copy cell data from query results!
