Two New Pilot Programs for Winter '10
June 29th, 2009, 2 Comments
I’ve learned that the following pilot programs should be available for Winter ’10. You should check with your account rep if you are interested in participating in them. Criteria-based Sharing Rules Have you ever wanted to share records based on the criteria of a record and not just on the ownership of the record? Have [...]
Overriding Standard Links with Visualforce Pages
June 26th, 2009, 3 Comments
One of my most visited blog entries is Redirecting Users To Different Visualforce Pages which shows how you can override the standard Salesforce.com page layouts with your custom Visualforce pages. Based upon a number of emails, it appears that I’ve omitted the process of overriding the standard links with these new Visualforce pages. So you [...]
I'm Joining Appirio!
June 25th, 2009, 6 Comments
After almost two year at Informa I’m leaving for an opportunity at Appirio that I cannot pass up. I’m looking forward to some exciting Salesforce.com projects at Appirio and hopefully I can even dabble in GAE/J and maybe even Google Wave. I’ll be heading to San Mateo for training the middle of July. I was [...]
Google App Engine for Java and Force.com Java Toolkit Demo
June 24th, 2009, No Comments
When the Force.com for Google App Engine Java Toolkit was in development I promised Ron Hess and Ryan Marples some feedback on my development efforts and to provide some demo applications for the project. Unfortunately the toolkit was released roughly the same time that our Sites pilot application went live and I left for my [...]
A Big, Scalable Bucked of RIA Goodness
June 23rd, 2009, No Comments
I was thinking about writing this tutorial but it looks like someone has already beat me to it. This is a really good example of using Flex, BlazeDS and Eclipse with Google App Engine for Java for a highly scalable interface. He even references the GAE/J hack for Adobe BlazeDS to run. Nice work!
Flex and Force.com Toolkit Updates

I’m a BIG fan of Flex and have been developing applications with it since the Flex 2 beta. Not only is it a great front-end for Java applications but you can create some stunning interfaces for Salesforce.com. We have a number of applications in Production using the Force.com Toolkit and Adobe BlazeDS. The Toolkit allows [...]
Real World Release Management with Salesforce.com
June 19th, 2009, 3 Comments
We’ve been working with Salesforce.com on and off for about a year on their release and change management best practices. We’ve had a number of calls with them discussing the Metadata API’s functionality (or lack of functionality) and best practices for release management for large, complex orgs. It looks like they’ve taken of our suggestions [...]
JSTL Issue with GAE/J and Spring
June 18th, 2009, 2 Comments
I was porting an existing Spring application to GAE/J and was having an issue with JSTL not rendering correctly. It was just dumping the code to the browser. I finally tracked down the issue to the web.xml that is generated by GAE/J. This issue seems to be that with GAE/J you need to be using [...]
Three Great Announcements from Salesforce.com
June 16th, 2009, 1 Comment
So I returned from my two week vacation in Europe last night and was looking forward to spending today catching up on emails and seeing where my projects stand. Little did I know but Salesforce.com had other plans for me. Throughout the day I was bombarded by tweets with announcements from Salesforce.com! Force.com Sites goes [...]
