Per my previous comment, I figured it out with the help of one very old Google Groups post: when installing the NPSP into a sandbox environment, change this portion of the login link from https://login.salesforce to https://test.salesforce but do not click Login or hit enter, but instead click the Go button (the arrow that appears to the right of your URL when you type or edit a web address) on your browser.

We love the NPSP too! But I’m trying to install the most recent upgrades into a sandbox environment and I can’t seem to login to my sandbox from within the installation steps. I also can’t seem to find a solution to this anywhere online. Do you have any tips on installing into a sandbox?
